Winterize your driveway and avoid costly repairs!

  • by

With snow and ice blanketing our region, Dakota Concrete recommends the following three-step process for winterizing driveways:

  1. Clean it thoroughly: Remove all dirt, oil, and debris. A pressure washer is effective, but a stiff broom and a hose work well too. Ensure the driveway is completely dry before moving to the next step.
  2. Seal it: Applying a high-quality, penetrating concrete sealer is the most crucial step. The sealer acts as a waterproof barrier, preventing water from seeping into the pores and cracks.
  3. Use de-icers sparingly and wisely: Avoid using rock salt or de-icers containing ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulfate, as these chemicals are highly corrosive to concrete. Choose products that are concrete-safe. Shovel snow promptly to reduce the need for de-icers.
